Kala and Andy chose one of my favorite locations in Hawaii for their romantic honeymoon session. That of course would be the incredible Makapu’u Lookout and Beach on Oahu! Makapu’u has so much to offer as a location, which is why I love it for elopements, family sessions, proposals, honeymoon sessions, and more. Kala and Andy’s session here is another example of just how perfect this location is for photos in the tropical paradise of Hawaii.
A Romantic Honeymoon in Hawaii
Before we talk about Kala and Andy’s session, I first wanted to talk a little bit about how these two got here. You see, they didn’t start planning their honeymoon session until around a year and a half after their wedding date. There’s of course nothing wrong with waiting for a honeymoon, and the past year was one of excitement, love, and growth for these two. It is safe to say though that they were more than excited to get some time away where they could just enjoy one another’s company. They landed on Hawaii for their honeymoon and decided they wanted to bring a piece of the island home with them, which is how their romantic session came to be a reality!
Kala and Andy’s Honeymoon Session
We started Kala and Andy’s session atop Makapu’u Lookout for some photos with the iconic view the location offers. Things were a bit windy which made it all the more fun, with Kala’s hair and dress both flowing in the wind. We then made our way to Makapu’u Beach below for the remainder of their session. Complete with an outfit change, some photos running through the water, and even some steamy photos of Kala in her swimsuit and Andy in only his jeans lying in the sand together.
Planning Your Hawaiian Honeymoon Session
I can’t overstate just how much I love the idea of planning a romantic session for your honeymoon to Hawaii like Kala and Andy did. It’s the perfect way to celebrate this new chapter of life you find yourselves in with an adventure in a literal tropical paradise. The fantastic part about the Hawaiian Islands is that there’s something here for everyone. Whether you want to relax at the pool or beach at an all-inclusive resort like the Four Seasons Resort on Maui, or head out on an adventurous hike and see the islands from a new perspective, the options are quite literally endless!
For the best weather and least number of tourists on the islands, I recommend planning your honeymoon and your session sometime in April, May, September, or October. For more planning assistance I have a whole guide on planning an engagement session in Hawaii. The points transfer extremely well for those looking to plan a honeymoon here on the islands though!
Kala and Andy were able to put together a romantic experience in Hawaii for their honeymoon, complete with a session documenting their love, and I cannot get over it. I adore this idea and would LOVE to photograph more couples celebrating their honeymoon in this beautiful place I call home.
