It’s by no means a secret that the islands of Hawaii are home to some of the most popular resorts and destinations for families to vacation at, which is exactly what we’re here to talk about today! Not too long ago I put together an article about my 12 favorite resorts for couples found throughout the islands, and many of those also found their way onto this list as they are just THAT incredible. There are a few new faces here though, so if you’re interested in planning a family vacation to the tropical paradise of Hawaii these are the 12 best resorts for you and your family to stay at! Much like my last article, we’ll start our journey on the big island and work our way down the chain.

Big Island

Four Seasons Resort Hualalai

The first resort on my list is the ever wonderful Four Seasons Resort Hualalai, which always provides an out of this world experience. This luxurious and comfortable resort is on the west coast of the Big Island of Hawaii, and has SO much for you and your family to enjoy during your stay! Much like many of the Four Seasons Resorts we’ll talk about on this list, there are a ton of activities for you and your family to take part in here. From snorkel tours and tennis lessons, to beachside family dining and a WHOLE lot more, it’s impossible to run out of things to do at the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai!

The resort also does the most to ensure that your littles have the time of their lives. From their swimmable aquarium, to their spring/summer camp and daily children’s programs, there is always something new and exciting for your kids to try out!

Mauna Lani

Also found on the west side of the Big Island of Hawaii is the next resort you should consider for your family getaway, Mauna Lani! Similar to the Four Seasons Hualalai, and many of the other resorts we’ll cover on this list, Mauna Lani offers its guests an astounding array of activities to enjoy during their stay! It’s part of what makes staying at a resort in Hawaii for a family vacation so appealing, as you have practically everything you’ll need for the entire trip at your fingertips. From delicious food, beachside access, rotating weekly activities, seasonal activities, and a complementary kids club for your littles to take part in, there’s so much to enjoy and experience at Mauna Lani! The resort also has a ton of options when it comes to the rooms and suites, all of which are the embodiment of rest and relaxation.

Maui

Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea

The island of Maui is up next, and that of course means we get to take another look at a phenomenal Four Seasons Resort! The Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea is very much a favorite of my family and I, even after having enjoyed many of the other resorts throughout the islands of Hawaii. I’ve actually written an entire vacation guide for this resort, which you should definitely check out! Much like the Four Seasons Hualalai, this resort offers an array of activities and classes for you and your family to take part in to make the most of your time in paradise.

They also offer assistance with creating custom family itineraries catered to your children’s ages in case you need a little help planning the day to day. Whether you want to sit back and relax, get active and adventure, or a mix of both, the Four Seasons Maui has everything you need to have THE best time during your family vacation!

Grand Wailea

The ‘next door’ neighbor of the Four Seasons Maui is the Grand Wailea, our next resort that is a must consider for your family vacation to Hawaii! Sitting directly next to the Four Seasons Maui on the west coast of the island, the Grand Wailea lives up to its namesake and offers an all around phenomenal experience for your getaway!

The Grand Wailea is a wonderful option for families with littles, as the resort does everything they can to make sure that your children have an unforgettable experience. Children are given a “Grand Passport” upon entrance, which maps out ALL the different activities that can be found throughout the resort, and there are a LOT of things to do. From water sports, to dance classes, and rotating weekly activities, the excitement never ends. They also partner with an amazing local childcare service that can look after, and bring your children to organized events, in case you need a date night out for just the two of you!

Oahu

Four Seasons Oahu at Ko Olina

My family and I just recently stayed at the Four Seasons Oahu at Ko Olina for the weekend, and much like the other resorts under the Four Seasons umbrella, they offer a premiere Hawaii vacation experience for families! Activities like surf lessons, snorkeling, canoe sailing, cultural and art workshops, and more all make the experience endlessly fun for your littles. They also offer a seasonal featured activity that ensures that there’s always something new for you and your kids to try. Currently that activity is a Skate Camp, and it is SO much fun! The rooms are comfortable and luxurious, the pools and beaches are pristine, and the food is divine. It really is the WHOLE package deal!

Sheraton Waikiki

Found in bustling Waikiki is our next resort, the Sheraton Waikiki! Where most of the other resorts on this list have a more secluded and private feel to them, the Sheraton Waikiki is the perfect resort for families looking to experience the exciting and vibrant downtown of the capital of Hawaii! In addition to the inclusion of endless activities for you and the family to enjoy at the resort, the location also allows you to get out and enjoy the charm and wonder of Waikiki and Honolulu. From the Waikiki Aquarium and Zoo, to endless shopping options and phenomenal restaurants, if you’re a family that wants a bit of a city vibe alongside their tropical paradise this is the resort for you!

Moana Surfrider

The next resort on our list is actually the first hotel that was ever built in Waikiki, Moana Surfrider! Built in 1901 and found just a short walk down the beach from the Sheraton Waikiki, this smaller resort is still a great option for any family looking for a wonderful getaway to the islands of Hawaii! Being located in Waikiki means that Moana Surfrider guests also have access to all of the city’s offerings like the Sheraton. The resort also has its own unique draws to it though, including their sunrise ceremonies, outrigger canoeing opportunities, historical tours, spectacular pool and beach access, and more. Being one of Oahu’s oldest resorts, Moana Surfrider also has a commitment to their sustainability practices that they incorporate throughout their business, which I absolutely adore!

The Royal Hawaiian

Found in between the Moana Surfrider and the Sheraton Waikiki is The Royal Hawaiian! Known as the “Pink Palace of the Pacific” thanks to the iconic pink coloring, this resort offers a surreal and out of this world setting for you and your family to enjoy. The resort is one of the most distinct and recognizable throughout all of Hawaii, and has a ton to offer and enjoy for the whole family! From surf lessons, dance classes, an award winning outdoor pool, access to Waikiki Beach, and all of the endless activities of Waikiki itself to enjoy, there’s so much to love about The Royal Hawaiian!

Turtle Bay

The next resort on my list is the lovely Turtle Bay on Oahu’s north shore! This resort sits on the opposite side of the island as Waikiki, and is the perfect option for families that are really looking to get away from the city! Unbelievable beach views and access, comfortable and luxurious rooms, and out of this world service are just a few of the areas where Turtle Bay excels as a resort for a family getaway in Hawaii. Where the resort really shines though is the insane amount of activities there are to choose from here. Night snorkeling, horseback riding, surf lessons with professional surfing dogs, kayak turtle tours, scavenger hunts, pickleball, and much much more! 

Kauai

Koloa Landing Resort at Poipu

On the southside of the island of Kauai is the gorgeous Koloa Landing Resort at Poipu! This resort of Hawaii is perfect for the family that’s looking for a cozy and luxurious home base, but who also want to get out and explore the wonders that Kauai has to offer. While Koloa Landing has a LOT to do on site including their phenomenal aquatic playground of pools, beach access, and delicious restaurants, much of the excitement comes from what is also found around Koloa Landing. If you’re looking to explore a bit, do some hiking as a family, and take charge making your family getaway your own, Koloa Landing is an amazing option for your stay!

1 Hotel Hanalei Bay

On Kauai’s north shore is 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay, which is a resort that has SO much going for it. Incredible rooms and suites, wonderful restaurant and food options, and a ton of activities to enjoy and engage with. They have a rotating monthly calendar that covers all of the different activities and opportunities available each month. There’s seriously SO much for you and your family to enjoy here! Poolside adventures, classes and workshops geared towards your littles, tennis and pickleball courts, a breathtaking beach, and more still! 

Grand Hyatt Kauai

The final resort on my list is back on the south shore of Kauai, the Grand Hyatt! This resort may be known for its out of this world golf course, but there is still much more to enjoy for families that aren’t that big on golf! As you’d come to expect with resorts on this list, the Grand Hyatt gives families the opportunity to relax and enjoy themselves in a luxurious room or suite, with beach and outdoor pool access. They also offer tons of activities to enroll and take part in like ukulele lessons, luaus, lei making, hula classes, rotating activities from season to season, and SO much more. They also offer assistance with planning the itinerary of your adventure with the help of their amazing concierge staff!

As you can see, there are a TON of incredible resorts throughout the islands of Hawaii that all make for fantastic options for you and your family to stay at!
