Yulia + Max | Hawaii Maternity Session and Babymoon in Maui

With the rise of the idea of a babymoon vacation, Maui has become a hotspot for parents-to-be. There’s just something about the relaxed island vibe that makes it a perfect place for one last vacation before baby arrives! Yulia and Max came to Hawaii to do just that. They stopped by Lanai first then headed off Maui to celebrate the soon-to-arrive addition to their family. But that wasn’t all they were celebrating. 

Like many couples, the pandemic threw off Yulia and Max’s plan for their wedding celebration and their honeymoon. Instead of postponing their wedding day, they decided to keep it simple, settling for a courthouse wedding. And while their dream honeymoon couldn’t happen right away, they promised each other an amazing trip to Hawaii once things became safer. And as fate would have it, by the time they were able to book their honeymoon, there was a little one on the way!

Yulia and Max couldn’t have picked a more perfect place for their honey/ babymoon. On Maui, they were able to explore, relax, and soak in a lot of time together. Yulia even mentioned that she had been so sick for her entire pregnancy…right up until they arrived in Hawaii! So, I’m not saying Maui cures morning sickness buuuuut it’s worth a shot, am I right!? 

When they decided to book a photo session with me to document their trip, I was thrilled. They told me this would actually be their first professional photoshoot together! As expected, they felt a little nervous at first. I am very cognizant of the need for a good old fashioned ice breaker, and in Hawaii the best ice breaker involves actual ice: shaved ice. 

I met Yulia and Max at one of my favorite shaved ice spots before jumping straight into the session. And are you ready to have your mind blown? This was their first shaved ice, too! SAY WHAT! I was so glad to share that moment with them, because if you come to Hawaii you absolutely have to have shaved ice. It was the perfect stepping stone into our session, giving them time to relax and enjoy a little more of Hawaii. And, of course, I had to snag a few cute pics of them enjoying their treats, too! 

After our literal icebreaker, we headed down to Wailea and made a few stops along the way. We spotted some beautiful greenery and even picked a little bundle of flowers as we went. Then, we headed to my favorite places (don’t judge me!), the nude beach! We kept our eyes forward and got where we needed to go! But I really have never seen a beach as beautiful as this one, so the TMI is totally worth it. Anytime the couple is down, and can handle the, um, distractions, I love to photograph here. 

Yulia and Max were so dang fun and not for one second did Yulia let her tiny bump get in the way of loving and jumping all over Max! We ended the night with a breathtaking sunset, and they were even up for jumping into the ocean. Honestly, I’m still pinching myself because I couldn’t get over how perfect this whole shoot day was. I’m so grateful Yulia and Max chose me to document their story with a maternity session on Maui!
